The 24 Peak Challenge is over !
- To all our supporters
Thank you so much for your support. As you can see from this site, so far, with your help, encouragement and enthusiasm, we have easily exceeded our target fund of £2,700 in aid of the British Red Cross.
This came from a combination of events, which included; Climbing the height of K2 by walking over the summits of the Brecon Beacons; portrait donations in Yorkshire; public talks in Bristol and cake eating in London, not to mention a huge amount of very generous personal donations from all over the world! Thank you.
It was that support and generosity that saw us through the very bleak, wet Saturday and Sunday of the event, when, for the first time in 10 years the planned hill walk on Saturday was cancelled due to 96 km/hr winds and 36 mm of rain in 24 hours.
Nonetheless, buoyed by your commitment to us, the Hares didn't go on an Ambleside Tea shop crawl. We headed for Langdale and bounded up 6 peaks on day 1. Day 2 went ahead and despite zero visibility, continued rain and 70 km/h gusts of wind coming off the top of Hellvelyn, we completed the prerequisite 14 peaks in 8 hours and 38 mins.
It was a tremendous team effort, with Philippa, Paul, and
Phil doing excellent navigation, and Joe setting an unbelievable pace despite a
knee injury. Our brilliant support drivers, Sharu and Susie, dragged themselves
from their beds well before dawn to get us to the starting point on time, and
meeting us at the end.
Our thanks must also go to Global Challenge who did a fantastic job of organising the event and making sure we all got off the hills in one piece.
Wet through and tired, the Mad March Hares live on ……….. !!
