Story

I made it!

I set out for the summit of Kilimanjaro from Kibo Hut Camp at 12:15am and at 8:00am local time on Monday the 9th February I reached Uhuru Peak the highest point in Africa. It was physically tough but the breathtaking views of the icefields on the crater rim and the exhilaration felt watching the sun rise over Mount Mawenzi is something i will never forget.

The amount of money raised for Survival International has exceeded my expectations and I would like to thank everybody who has donated to the charity. All of your support was much appreciated.

Malcolm

Hi everyone!

Some of you may have already heard I’m off to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on 3rd February 2009. At 5895M it’s a long way up and from all that I’ve read and heard it’s going to be very tough.

For those of you who know me well you will know that I have been banging on about climbing a mountain for ages and if I’m going to climb one, why not climb a big one! It’s been tough going already, I joined the gym the start of last February to give myself a year to get in shape, and have been getting up at 5.45am three or four times a week ever since. Yep while you guys are fast asleep I’m running on the treadmill!

With all this effort going in I thought why not try and raise a few pound for a good cause. I’ve chosen Survival International; they are a registered charity supporting tribal peoples worldwide to defend their lives, protect their land and determine their own futures. If you have watched Bruce Parry in Tribe and Amazon you will know exactly why I have chosen them. http://www.survival-international.org/

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Survival International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. I'm meeting 100% of the cost for the climb myself so all monies raised will go straight to Survival International

So go on what are you waiting for? Please please sponsor me!

Thank you
Malcolm
