All,

On 26 & 27 June this year, myself and a team of people are taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge in memory of my partner Malcolm Hunt.

Many of you are aware that on 7 February of this year, Malcolm sadly passed away after a brave battle with Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) and Amyloidosis (a rare disease that affected Malcolm’s heart).  At the age of 34, it was a great shock to everyone who knew Malcolm because he was an extremely active and healthy person who loved and lived life to the full.

During Malcolm’s last few months, he received great care and support from an independent, local charity, The Shakespeare Hospice.  The Hospice provided Malcolm with alternative therapies, equipment to help with pain relief and made his life as comfortable as possible and it was also a place to go to when he needed extra support.  The Hospice has also been a great support to me during the time I was caring for Malcolm and has helped me come to terms with everything following his death.

As the Hospice is an independent charity, it relies on various methods of fundraising.  Malcolm’s ex-colleague at AVST, Steve Gore, has arranged for a team to take on the Three Peaks Challenge and raise money for the Hospice.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks, respectively, in (Scafell Pike), (Snowdon) and (), within 24 hours.  The event will actually take place on Malcolm’s 35 birthday (27 June), which I feel is fittingly very appropriate and will make it all the more special.

I am personally very touched by the effort Steve has gone to by putting this fundraising event together and very grateful to everyone who is taking part.  I know Malcolm would be extremely touched and very proud of everyone involved and even though nothing will ever take away the pain of losing Malcolm, it is comforting to know that some good is coming out of such a great loss.

We are asking for sponsorship for this event which is for an extremely worthwhile cause, so please, if you could contribute anything it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Jo Wakerell

About The Shakespeare Hospice

The Shakespeare Hospice is an independent local charity providing specialist palliative day care for people living in the upon district, living with a life-limiting illness.  The majority of their patients are living with cancer, but they also help patients with other life-limiting illnesses such as Motor Neurone Disease and AIDS.  Their specialist palliative nursing care and support enables patients to continue living at home with their families while receiving active treatment, or for as long as possible when active treatment has ceased.
