We are currently fundraising to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Julia's House. Julia's House is an exceptional charity who dedicate their time to providing care and respite to children with life limiting conditions. Despite their commendable work they only receive 3% of their funding from the Government and therefore rely highly on the kindness of likeminded supporters.
We decided therefore we'd need to do something quite exceptional in order to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity. So what better than to trek the worlds tallest free standing mountain! We begin our adventure on the 24th June 2010 and have opted to make our ascent up the 5985 m peak via the lesser known Rongai Route, renowned for remaining significantly untouched and as such much more tricky under foot!!! The 9 day trip will be gruelling and test us both physically and mentally....and perhaps most difficult of all will involve Hayley sleeping in a tent for 7 nights and not washing... not an easy feat! The trek will also test our ability to adapt to extreme environmental conditions as at night temperatures at the peak can drop to a chilly -18 to -26 degrees celsius. However, with the children at Julia's House and everyone's support at the forefront of our minds we our sure together we can reach the top!
At present we are half way to achieving our goal for Julia's House and have done a number of fundraising activities like hampers, raffles, a Julia's House party and a very success Halloween children's party (See pictures). All of which have been done through Cobhams Sports and Social Club in Wimborne where we have received a great deal of help and support from both their generous customers and staff!!! We would once again like to express our sincere thanks to them and we hope that others we know and love will be just as generous in their donations, as very little helps.
