My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please continue to dig deep and sponsor me online.

At the grand age of 40 this was my first (and probably my last!) marathon so my goals were: just to cross the finishing line, to raise some money for Leukaemia Research. Oh yes, and to have fun!.

My dad, Mick Stratford was diagnosed at the age of 65 with acute myeloid leukaemia. He underwent chemotherapy as part of a research trial and was fortunate to acheive a remission and good health for a while. We subsequently had two and a half years of real quality time as a family. Without the chemotherapy we would not have had that time. Running the marathon and raising some money is my way of making a tiny contribution to the developments in Leukaemia Research.

I am pleased, proud and incredibly relieved to report that I completed the course in 4hrs 57min 5 seconds (chip timing), coming in at 3712th of 4406 completing runners (there were many more running as relay teams). As you can see from the photo, I didn't find it a stroll in the park!

To date, the total funds raised will exceed £3000 once gift aid is addd. Knowing that every mile was bringing in over £100 kept me going. A huge thank you to all those who have already sponsored me. Those who still wish to do so can still donate through this site.It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leukaemia Research Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support. Mandy
