Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

On Sunday 23rd May 2010 I am RAN the Edinburgh Marathon. A total of 26.2 miles in some of the h ottest conditions seen this year in the UK.

I had the pleasure of meeting the staff at a fabulous facility called Cancer Support Scotland (Tak-Tent) and I decided to fundraise on their behalf.  Now that I have completed the race I hope you all can dig deep and help me reach my target.

This is their story.

Cancer Support Scotland (Tak Tent) was established in 1980 by Professor Sir Kenneth Calman, a cancer specialist, in response to many requests received from his patients and their families for opportunities to meet and talk with others affected by cancer.

This led to the formation of support groups which were patient led, and later to the underlying principle of patient focussed cancer care as developed by the Calman-Hine report on which today's cancer services are built.

Since then the organisation has continued to grow from its base within the Gartnavel Hospital complex, providing services and support to cancer patients and families free of charge.

"Tak Tent" means "take care" in old scots, and that is what this wonderful organisation does.

Tak-Tent supports over 2600 people each year, through a range of services provided by dedicated, fully qualified staff and practitioners. These staff are supported by a small administration and fundraising team and hundreds of volunteers.

The Tak Tent support group provide a time and a place for people to talk, share experiences, meet new friends and be with others who can honestly say "we know how you feel".

They currently run from a former nurses flat in the grounds of Gartnavel, but due to the increasing support this area is no longer appropriate.

An old church building, on the grounds of Gartnavel has been made available  and will provide the much needed room for expansion - however the building does require total renovation and repair.

The renovation of the church building will result in a fully equipped support centre with specific rooms, areas and resources to meet the current and future needs of the patients and families.

This is what YOUR donation will be used towards and your generosity will be much appreciate for many years to come by so many people.

Give a little, or give a lot. Myself and everyone at Tak-Tent greatly appreciate all your support.
