Flora London Marathon 2005 · 17 April 2005 ·

Sense is here to support disabled people from the first weeks of life through all the major milestones of adulthood. Over 70 years, we’ve built extensive knowledge and expertise in supporting disabled people with complex needs, including deafblind people.

Story

I am 45 years old, having a mid life criisis and decided to run the London Marathon on 17th April.

I managed to survive the day although the first twelve miles was fairly chaotic with an assortment of chicken. Elvises, Flower Pot men and similar to avoid and make my way around - impossible to settle into a steady pace. All was going to plan until the 20th mile when I hit the famous wall with my legs going to jelly but a gift of a banana saved the day there. At 22 miles everything went horribly wrong with massive cramps (I should have made allowances for the hot weather and taken some salt on) and I more or less had to walk the last 4 miles to finish in 4 hours and one minute. The last 50 minutes were probably more of the painful in my life and I was very disappointed to not be below 4 hours.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Sense - National Deafblind and Rubella Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support. Mark
