Sadly I never met Tom but I have grown extremely fond of his family. They are the kindest, warmest and most genuine people you could hope to meet. Tom's story is one that always brings a lump to my throat (you can read it at tomprince.co.uk) The hope and courage which he showed during his illness and the spirit with which his family fight to keep his memory alive is a great inspiration to me and that inspiration has led me to Ironman.
Ironman is a 140 mile Triathlon consisting of:
§ 2.4 mile Swim (152 lengths of a standard pool)
§ 112 mile Cycle (almost the entire length of the M25)
§ 26.2 mile Run (the equivalent of the London Marathon)
To be honest I’m a little bit scared of it but I guess that’s a good thing! I’ve always expected to finish the events of taken on in the past but I have an enormous amount of respect for Ironman and I am expecting it to test me to my absolute limits.
I will be following a rigourous training schedule between now and then, with up to 10 sessions per week and with very few trips to the pub! but the thought of Tom and his family make it all worthwhile and that is what keeps me going when my body has long since said it's time to stop. I will use 8,000 calories during Ironman and I would like to raise £1 for each one. Please help me to do so by sponsoring me.
