I am part of a large research team that investigates ways of helping people recover from the physical impairments associated with conditions such as stroke.  Our research group is using robotic theraphy to try and help people regain normal movements of their arms.  We are also looking at the use of various medicines to try and accelerate recovery after stroke.  Our research team has enjoyed important financial support from REMEDI and this is why I thought it would be an excellent idea to support this charity by running in the 2009 London Marathon.

I also think it's a good idea to experience the difficulties experienced by people with physical disability.  It is remarkably painful and inconvenient to walk after a long training run (especially when walking involves steps) but this is northing compared to the pain and difficulty experienced by people with long-term disability.  It's good to be reminded of this and it helps one realize the critical importance of the research supported by REMEDI.

Please do sponsor me so that I can raise money for this excellent charity.  The money will go directly to helping us develop methods of improving outcome after stroke.

With many thanks for your supportMark
