New York City Marathon 2008 · 2 November 2008 ·

Jesuit Missions is the international development and mission office of the Jesuits in Britain. For over 50 years it has supported vulnerable communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Story

Hello there.  Despite the fact that after the London marathon I said I would hang up my trainers unfortunately I was accepted for the random ballot for the NYC marathon.  This means a couple of things, I annoyed Josephine by entering and getting in and also I can choose the charities that I wish to run for.

We have chosen two.  Should one of the charities 'be ahead' in terms of donations please donate to the other.  We'll try and raise as much as possible equally for them both.

Our two charities are the Wimbledon College Southern India Fund - this page which helps deprived communities of India building schools and hospitals. Josephine visited the region for a couple of weeks in 2005 inorder to help lay the foundations for the school.  The money raised from this page will go directly to this project via the Jesuit Missions.  The second is Cancer Research that is on www.justgiving.com/marksmith18.  Too many people around us over the last couple of years have been affected by this desease and we'll try and contribute towards and effective combat.

Thanks very much. The Countdown to Nov 2nd is well underway.

'Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.'
