Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Martin King, The Independent's Online Editor, has been working on Internet sites for about 14 years. Which is why he needed to get off his backside. Other people take screen breaks, he just entered the London Marathon. And he's doing it all for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, where his daughter is a nurse in Neonatal Intensive Care.

Every donation helps:

£7 can help towards an 'assisted bath' on the orthopaedic ward.
£20 can buy 4 neonatal breathing masks for tiny newborns.
£50 can pay for five nights upkeep of parent accommodation rooms.
£100 can go towards specially adapted toys, used for rehabilitation.
£250 can go towards a playroom.
£798 can buy a wheelchair and accessories.
£1111 can pay for a week's research into kinder, more effective treatments.
£5000 can contribute towards a virtual reality training suite for doctors.
