Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. In October we’re spending two weeks in Kenya to work as volunteer cricket coaches with Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB).

CWB aims to educate and help underprivileged communities in Africa, using cricket to develop personal skills ranging from basic teamwork to self-discipline and leadership.

Most importantly, it uses the game of cricket as a tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS by focusing on changing behavioural patterns and bringing children together in a safe and fun environment where critical messages about HIV/AIDS can be delivered. As coaches, our training sessions will have at their heart a discussion about the disease both in terms of prevention and treatment. CWB also stands for equality of treatment for those with the disease: regardless of their status, children and adults are included in coaching, games and competitions.

CWB’s administration costs are very low: your donation will help its work by providing equipment and AIDS awareness materials (don’t worry – we’re paying for our own flights!). The charity also aims at sustainability: since its establishment in 2005 it has trained 250 new ICC coaches across Africa, leaving them with the equipment to continue to coach their community.

We aim to raise £2500 for CWB and to this end we walked the Yorkshire Three Peaks on 30 August – a 25 mile circuit including 5200ft of ascent and descent. In keeping with our work in Kenya, we wore cricket whites for the whole walk and played a small game of cricket on each peak. A few friends joined us for the day and we completed the walk just inside our target of 12 hours. Even though we've completed the challenge we set ourselves, it's not too late to sponsor us to support CWB’s work in Africa, so please do give generously.
