My story

Last April, friends, family and colleagues of Barry Winter got together to play an 11-a-side football match in his memory.

Barry died in 2008 at the age of just 37 following a battle with a rare form of cancer, cholangiocarcinoma. He loved playing football and we felt this was a fitting way to remember him.

Our initial target was to raise £1,000 for the Imperial College Healthcare Charity. In the end we raised over £4,500 thanks to the generosity of many people.

Such was the success of last year's the event that we're planning to repeat it.  And this year we'll be pitting ourselves against the mighty Radio Forth All Stars.

Funds raised this year will be split between the Imperial College Healthcare Charity and xxxx. The team we're funding at Imperial College is looking at the causes of cholangiocarcinoma and how to diagnose it at an earlier, operable stage, as well as considering new drug therapies.

Once again, your sponsorship will be greatly appreciated by all of us and by Barry's wife Helen, his daughter Marianne and the rest of his family. Crucially it will help others diagnosed with this cancer in the future.

If you want to come along and watch the match please feel free to do so. The game takes place at Ainslie Park (home of Spartans FC http://www.spartansfc.com/ainslie-park-2/) on Sunday April 25 and kick-off is at 2pm.

Thanks for your support.
