My story

I'll be blogging during the 10 in 10 at http://www.brathaywindermeremarathon.org.uk/blog/matt-dunn.aspx and you can see daily video updates at http://www.cumbrialive.tv/brathay10in10/

The Brathay 10 in 10

The Brathay 10 in 10 is regularly described as “….the UK’s ultimate endurance running event.” 10 marathons in 10 days – 262 miles over 10 days around England’s largest lake.

I'm thrilled to be taking part in this, the 5th running of this event, in May 2012. Only 43 people have completed this incredible challenge to date!

Thousands of people train for and run a marathon such as London, or New York every year, putting in hours and hours of training. Many of these amazing people struggle to walk up stairs the next day.. Imagine doing just that and getting up and running another marathon - every day for 10 days.

Why?

Well, I love running, and I love challenging myself.

Much more importantly, the event is held to raise funds to support Brathay Hall Trust’s work with underprivileged children and young people. Runners raise sponsorship as part of their contribution to improving the lives of those young people who are most disadvantaged or vulnerable.

All money raised goes directly to the charity - the cost of putting this event on is covered by entry fees, so every penny really donated does go to helping vulnerable young people.

Thank you

Any donation, of any size is hugely appreciated - it all adds up! That said, I am aiming to raise £3000, so please dig deep and donate now.

Updates

01/05/12: It's May.. This all starts in 10 days! I ran my last marathon before the 10in10 at Milton Keynes on Sunday, in horrific weather. I was pacing (sub-4) again and came home in 3:59 - spot on!

17/04/12: Just over 3 weeks to go now until day 1. After a sub-2:30 at the Spitfire 20 and a sub-90 at the Reading Half on April 1st, focus has turned back to endurance and pacing. I had a great time as a pacer at the Brighton Marathon last Sunday, bringing the sub-4 bus home in 3:57.

09/03/12: Almost two months to go.. I've run 6 marathons so far this year, including 4 in 4 days at the Enigma Quadzilla in Feb. That was tough, and wasn't helped by the freezing cold weather, and ice and snow. I fell on the ice and bashed my knee and managed to damage my toe (which later got infected, lovely) but it was a great experience ahead of the 10 in 10. Coming up I've got the Surrey Spitfire 20, Reading Half Marathon (a good pace workout) and then the Brighton and MK marathons, where I'm the sub-4 pacer at both events.

16/01/12: The 10 in 10 team got together for the weekend at Brathay Hall to run the course and learn much more about what we've got ourselves in for. There's a lot of hard work to come before May 11th, and then it gets much harder. Please donate and help me to help this fantastic charity in the invaluable work that they're doing with disadvantaged children in the UK.

15/09/11: I did the NDW 100 a few weeks ago - totally exhausting but a great experience. 100 miles in 28 hours and 48 minutes!

On August 13th, I'll be running my first 100 mile race.. So, whilst the 10 in 10 is still a way off, I'm doing something *right now* that's hopefully worthy of a donation.

The small print

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
