Story

Update: Sunday 13th April 2014: Mat did it!!! Thank you all sooo much everybody has been amazing...... we have been overwhelmed by people's kindness....We have smashed our target!! woo hoo !! Toby & Ethan are delighted.  Mat did it.  He finished the London Marathon in 4 hrs 33. We are soo very proud of him. We saw him for a quick cuddle at mile 23!!  Beautiful day for it. Mat has raised just shy of £2000 for Ward 24. Thk you all sooo much.  Mat and the boys hv been invited back on BBC Radio Berkshire at 7.30am tmrw for an update on today. Xx

Mat & the boys had an amazing time at the BBC Berkshire radio studios in Caversham on Friday , they were in the Midweek observer last week and the Burnham and Maidenhead advertisers this week, lots of excitement over that! We had a wonderful day last Friday at 2 cake sales and huge thanks to very the kind Our Lady of Peace school PTA who as you will see have donated all the proceeds to our fivers' fund.  Mat went out on an 11 mile run last Friday with 'coach' & friend Graham Kent - well done  & thank you Graham.  We are very proud of him. Thank you all so much again for your wonderful support - it means the world to us and we couldn't have done it without you.  best wishes Helen, Mat, Ethan & Toby xx  ps extra monies above the cost of the projector will go towards buying bravery certificates and stickers and start a fund to produce a new DVD for children attending hospital for an operation.....xx

Click below to read why Mat is running: Toby is a happy, smiley, boisterous 6 year old who was diagnosed with Panayiotopoulos syndrome about 3 years ago after having a long lasting seizure while he was asleep just before his 3rd birthday and he has had several other long lasting seizures in his sleep. (We call it dancing in his sleep!).  Each time Toby has been rushed to Wexham Park Hospital where the care he has received has been brilliant, led by his consultant Dr Denia Alexopoulou, the A&E staff and the fab team of staff on Children's Ward 24.

As a parent seeing your child unconscious for so long is terrifying and the not knowing when the next seizure will be is frightening. Each night we put Toby to bed holding our breath to see if it will be tonight and there is a chance he could have a waking seizure. Not only have Dr Denia and her team looked after Toby so well but they have helped us cope as a family and we want to give something back.

Toby's Daddy, Matthew Slaney was lucky enough to receive a ballot place in the London Marathon on 13th April 2014 and wants to raise money for a projector for the playroom in the Children's ward at Wexham Park.

Each time Toby wakes up on Ward 24,the next morning after a seizure, he isn't at all bothered he is in hospital and is delighted to be able to go and play in the hospital Playroom.  The Playroom and the Playroom staff are lovely and it is such a fab facility for the children and their families and they would love to be able to buy a fun projector that projects images onto the floor for the children to 'catch' and play with.  And we are hoping to raise enough money to buy it for them.

Please support us. We need to get pledges for 300 x £5.  Please pledge a fiver.  Then we'd only need 299 fivers!  It is a lovely cause.

Best wishes and huge thanks

The Slaneys xx

PS. message from Toby: Thank you for sponsoring my Daddy and I hope we get enough five pounds to buy the projector. Love Toby xx
