My story

In just over 3 years The Yorkshire Regiment has disbursed £300,000 in benevolence.

Over 1000 separate grants have been made to those soldiers and their families of the Regiment, and all its antecedent Regiments, who have found themselves in difficulty or need.

This assistance through The Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust is increasing year on year both in the number of cases it deals with and the amount of money it spends on grants.

Case Study 1 - Mrs M, 74, wife of a Korean Veteran in one of the antecedent Regiments, has very poor mobility and was awaiting surgery.  Social Services had a huge back-log and it was likely to be months before any assistance could be given.  Mrs M’s biggest obstacle was her pride.  However, with the assistance of The Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust and other service charities, a grant was made to provide her with a walk-in shower and stair lift.  Her quality of life is now dramatically improved thanks to the benevolent trust and other service charities.

Case Study 2 – Private Y has recently returned from operations in Afghanistan having been severely wounded in action.  While still in hospital and receiving treatment, his house was adpted to allow access ramps and other specialist adaptations.  An orthopaedic bed and occupational therapist support was provided.  This work was carried out within weeks and was ready for when he was given the opportunity to return home to visit his family.  This work was made possible by The Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust.  Their support for Private Y is continuing.
