About Medair UK

Established in 1988, MEDAIR is an international humanitarian aid agency based in Switzerland with national offices in the UK, France and the Netherlands. It specialises in managing emergency projects in underprivileged developing countries where crisis situations threaten to further undermine their future development and stability.

MEDAIR chooses to operate in forgotten crises, and in remote and difficult to access areas. Thereby MEDAIR will often be the first, and sometimes only NGO to enter such areas, especially if they are not in the media spotlight. MEDAIR may also be the last to leave, choosing to remain after the media circus has moved on, when the collapse of the infrastructure is still a real threat and outside relief essential.

MEDAIR will always endeavour to strengthen local capacities by employing and training local staff (approximately 300 local staff to 70 expatriate), making purchases locally and involving the beneficiaries in the design, management, maintenance and implementation of the programmes. On leaving MEDAIR will handover projects to other suitable agencies if the local capacity is unable to maintain the project.
