Medium Slates:

The Collyweston Slate roof on the Old School, currently used as The King’s School Library, is in need of repair.

The building is Grade I listed and on the ‘Buildings at Risk’ register.

Collyweston stone slate roofs are one of the most distinctive and familiar features of the historic towns and villages around the in Northamptonshire which gives its name to the stone from which they are made. The slate is no longer mined and we need to rely upon existing supplies to source this venture.

It is estimated that about 70% of the original tiles could still be used; however the cost of re-roofing this historic building is still estimated to be £350,000,

The design of the roof is such that the slates at the top of the roof are small, and increase in size as the slope descends.

Here is where you can sponsor a ‘Medium Slate’ for £30.00 (GBP) per slate.

Your donation is very much appreciated. Thank you!
