I've recently been picked as the Media Representative for Loughborough University for the Zambia IDEALS Project.
The IDEALS Project has been set up by UK Sport to give students the opportunity to go to Zambia and aid the implementation of recreational sports activities to children affected by HIV/AIDS in the poorest areas of Zambia's capital, Lusaka. Zambia currently homes the one of the largest populations suffering from Aids, with 1/5 people suffering from the disease.
Loughborough have 4 sports coaches going out to teach: football, netball, volleyball and basketball.
As a media rep, I'll be out there working with two sport charities and helping them utilise their media facilities. I'll also be a UK reporter for Zambian press and be writing reports for various publications in the UK.
All the work we are doing out there is voluntary, but we have to fund our flights out there. We have to raise £1,000 each and as a Uni, a collective £15,000.
We've been selling refreshments at every sports event on campus and doing various events along the way too!
