My story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money and awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia for World Alzheimer's Day 2006.
This year is the centenary since Alzheimer's disease was first described by the German doctor, Alois Alzheimer in 1906. One hundred years later we still find ourselves struggling against stigma and fighting for more awareness and acceptance of the disease. There are currently 24 million people with dementia worldwide. This number will escalate to 81 million by 2040. With so many people affected, it is time dementia was recognised as a global health priority.
I am covering my own travel expenses so all funds raised will go to Friends of ADI, a UK charity set up to support the work of Alzheimer's Disease International. Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) is the international federation of Alzheimer associations across the world. Through its 75 member associations, ADI supports and represents people with dementia and their families across the globe from Australia to Zimbabwe. ADI provides its members with materials, contacts, research findings, advice and support, working to improve the quality of life and protect the rights of people with dementia and their families.
Your donation will help ADI to continue its important work giving a voice to people with dementia across the world.
