Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Meningitis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
**Update: On August 9th I completed the London Triathlon in a new personal best for the course in 1:51:12 despite absolutely torrential rain and a fall in the transition area incoming from the bike section. With this one I have completed four out of the six triathlons (London plus Wattisham, Walden and Norwich) and so I am well on track! I had to miss Culford due to illness and so I have added the Crystal Palace Triathlon in September to the list. A special thanks to everyone who has donated so far, much appreciated**
2008 is the sixth anniversary of my surviving a near fatal attack of viral meningitis which has had a lasting impression on my life. Once again this year, to celebrate another year of having survived this illness, I am doing triathlons to raise money for the Meningitis Trust who do so much to help people affected by Meningitis both those that suffer the disease and those that are bereaved as a result of an attack.
When meningitis strikes the first instinct for many people is to find out as much as they can about what it means to have it and what it means for the future. Fortunately the Meningitis Trust is there to help at what is a very frightening time for both sufferers and their family. Supported entirely by donation the Trust runs round the clock services for when this illness strikes and without support wouldn't be able to do this.
So this year I am doing six triathlons in six months to celebrate six years since I contracted this disease and in doing so supporting the Meningitis Trust in their invaluable work. Any donation is very welcome; after all if 100 people gave £1 then I would hit my target in no time!
The six triathlons this year include the biggest in the World in London as well as Wattisham, Walden, Norwich (open water swim), Clacton (sea swim and off-road bike course), Crystal Palace and then Bedford in October. Bedford in particular is tough since getting out of a swimming pool in October and straight onto a bike at 7.30 a.m is not for the faint hearted or those prone to hypothermia!
None of this would be possible of course without the support of my family and Born2Tri (www.born2tri.co.uk) the triathlon club I belong to whose training sessions and encouragement as I creak and groan on swim, bike and run sessions is a real help. A thank you also to Clare and Amy at the Meningitis Trust who have been great in helping me in finding the best way to help the Trust, sending me kit and also putting my photo on their website. I just hope it hasn't scared too many people off! Last but not least thanks to my Beth at CSC Mallino for agreeing to publicise my efforts at http://www.csc.com/ee/cscvoices.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support. Jonathan
