My story
To
Hello, I am a Springer Spaniel called Merlin and I am an ambassador dog for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Whilst I was appearing at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre in 2011 I had my picture taken with their Lancaster aircraft ‘Just Jane’ and Merlin’s Mission 2012 was born.
At the start of 2012 there was excitement and slight trepidation as £30,000 seemed a large a sum to raise. However, we can now really celebrate - as you can see we have not only reached our target but doubled it!
We have travelled throughout the East Midlands attending various types of events and have also given hundreds of talks about the charity. I have given many demonstrations of how a hearing dog helps a deaf person. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (RAF BBMF) at Coningsby gave access to all their iconic aircraft in order to produce our 2013 Mission Calendar. An initial print run of 300 seemed the right figure at the time but was such a success that the calendar finally sold over 1200 - a wonderful finale to our mission year.
Lots of people also held their own events across the country, from ‘Munchies for Merlin’ coffee mornings, dog shows and many other types of events, on behalf of us, and in doing so raised money for his mission and became members of my ground crew.
We could not have completed this special mission without the generous donations and support of all the wonderful people and organisations we have met during 2012. They have ensured that we have ‘reached for the sky’ and doubled the target changing the lives of even more deaf adults and children.
Although my mission has been successfully accomplished you can still join our success of ‘reaching for the sky’ by making a donation, come on let’s train even more hearing dogs!

After a £20,000 donation Merlin is reaching for the skies aiming to double his target. His new total has surpassed all expectations and given him the encouragement to reach £60,000 by his retirement at the end of the year, so keep supporting Merlin and help him achieve double!
