ETAPE du TOUR CYCLE RACE
Thanks for visiting my fund raising page.
In January of this year, I set myself two inter-linked challenges;
1) Try to complete the Etape de Tour Cycle race
2) Raise funds for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.
As most of you will know by now, on the 20 July, 2009 I was not successful in completing Challenge One, as I was ‘retired’ from the race by the officials having reached the 72 mile point. Whilst initially disappointed, I came to realise later in the day that I had under-estimated the scale of this challenge, and that this was indeed a wise decision. For what it is worth, I enjoyed my 72 mile ride through the French countryside!
As I did not complete the race, everyone’s entry in the competition to win the bike donated by Halfords was entered into a draw, and the lucky winner was Erica McConville (a colleague at work!) who guessed 7999!
I am, however, delighted to be able to tell you that I was much more successful with Challenge Two, in no small part to YOU, and inform you that the total raised was £6,400! This amount far exceeded my initial target, and I am absolutely stunned, and humbled by the generosity of everyone who has donated and helped me raise this much.
I would love to be able to thank each of you individually, but SO many people donated (100’s of whom were complete strangers!) that this is impossible.
I would, however, like to take this opportunity to thank the following, as without their support, my event would not have been so successful;
- Simon "Wiggly Wiggins" Wallace, who did complete the race, and raised £1,100 to-wards my total!
- Moi Liau, and her clients in London, who raised £240 to-wards my total!
- Dawn Weir and Rachel Burgoyne at NICFC, for all their support
- Brian McDermott at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (publicity)
- Colin Oliver at Halfords (for donating bike for competition)
- James Glen at Radiocontact Ltd (for sponsoring my race entry costs)
- Philip Moore at Sumetzberger Ireland/PHIL-TEC (for sponsoring my travel and accommodation costs)
- Natasha Walsh at Lisburn City Centre Management
- Margaret McClelland at Forestside Shopping Centre, Belfast
- Joy Hanna at The Tower Shopping Centre, Ballymena
- Margaret Rooney at The Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast
- Michael Bower at Mambco (cycle shirt printing)
- Ricky Darling & Andy Gordon at Avoniel Leisure Centre, Belfast
- Rachel Spence at The Bloomfield Shopping Centre, Bangor
- Lynne, Tina, Tim, Shauna, Anne, Molly, Rachel and Roy, who came along to the static events, and collected money!
On behalf of ALL the children that NICFC will be able to
help, thanks to YOUR generosity and support, a MASSIVE THANKS.
Michael
