In 2008 for this charity, I plan to undertake a walking challenge covering a distance of not less than 500 km across the UK and Europe, participating in a series of marathon walking and other fundraising events.
I have chosen to raise funds for the Army Benevolent Fund in 2008 as I want to make a contribution towards this Charity's excellent goals and objectives. The demand for the type of support this charity offers has never been higher due to the impact of current operational commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan, and other theatres.
The money I raise will all be donated to the ABF's Current Operations Fund. You can find out more about the ABF's excellent work by visiting the website www.armybenfund.org or by calling 0845 241 4820.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Army Benevolent Fund will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.

Update - I would like to dedicate this fundraising effort to the memory of Private Joe Whittaker, 20, 4th Battalion the Parachute Regiment, who was sadly lost in action in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on Tuesday 25th June 2008. Joe lived in Stratford upon Avon, and at one stage attended Emscote Lawn School, Warwick, where my daughters were pupils. My thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends.
In recognition of this, I have raised my fundraising target to £6500 and will now be walking an extra 42km in the Berlin Marathon, bringing the final distance to 520km.
