In memory of Neil ... In aid of Bury Hospice
Anyone who knows me well will know how much I loved Neil. They will also know how much I love the work I do now, why I do it and how close to my heart Bury Hospice has become. Neil, like many people, was ignorant of the Hospice and the care it gives, believing it to be a place of doom and gloom and last resorts. My eyes have been well and truly opened. This is a place of joy and laughter, extraordinary care and compassion ... and LOVE! You can feel it the minute you step through the door and I am privileged to help raise funds to support the people who care for families just like mine.
Many people don't realise that hospices are charities. The NHS contributes a miserly 16% which leaves us with a huge chunk of money to find ... £1.8 million to be exact. Last year we looked after almost 250 families and their loved ones. We need your help to enable us to keep on doing it.
A pound from everyone I know would make a difference, a fiver would be great, a tenner and I will love you forever ... you don't have to stop there either, I'll take anything
OK ... here comes the science bit
As I'm asking people to launch themselves out of fast moving aircraft for us, it seems only fair that I set an example, so some time next month (exact date yet to be confirmed) I have taken leave of my senses in a bid to become a member of the Two Mile High Club. A good 'friend' of mine asked me if I was bothering with a chute. Personally I think I'm still too young for a facelift (although a bit of eyebag surgery might not go amiss), so I will be fashionably attired in a flying suit, goggles and waterproof knickers, putting my faith in the burly bloke I'll be strapped to and launching myself into the ether from at least 10,000 feet, free-falling to 5,000 feet and dropping like a stone at 120mph. I say faith ... I'm hoping he isn't like most men when it comes to multi-tasking and too busy contemplating the state of the undercarriage to think about the rip cord. I will be thinking about the rip cord very, very hard and whether my Tena Lady will last the distance ... but I'm a woman, I can manage to think about both ... no problem!
