Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most of us get second chances all through our lives, me for instance, heavy drinker, heavy smoker, lets face it heavy everything for most of my adult life. My boys Jack and Keiran, nagged and nagged until I finally stopped smoking, January 1st 2008, and I have never looked back.
I joined the gym at the holiday inn in Clifton, with their support (and my own blood sweat ~ and beers) completed the Great North Run 2008 in 2 hrs 08mins, which then led to my first marathon last year in Edinburgh in 4hrs 35mins at the grand old age of 39.
Some people never get that second chance, my brother in-laws partner sadly passed away in March at the age of 44, however, if you had met her towards the end if not for her frailty you would not have known she was ill as she remained positive to the very end. At her request there were no flowers at the funeral, but the congregation were asked to donate to Overgate Hospice, it was at this time that I agreed with my brother in-law that I would do my next charity run for Overgate.
If you do have time, they have their own web site which will give you an insight into the great work the staff do there.
I have now completed 5 or 6 runs, and am constantly humbled by the amazing people you see and meet, people who have overcome great hardships to be there and make a difference, people who have taken that second chance to make life a little easier for those less fortunate than themselves
