In support of LearnAsOne, a small charity whose objective is to support the development of educational infrastructure in the developing world I am helping to organise and Participating in WalkAsOne.
WalkAsOne is based on the story of a young girl called Saviour who walks 7km to school every morning and 7km back home in the evening. She currently learns with her classmates in an old farmhouse, the trouble is that the farmer wants his building back. We are therefore raising money to build a new school. It costs just £19k in total, and just £5200 to build the first classroom. The locals have already shown there commitment to the project by handmaking sixty-thousand bricks for the school!
We will be walking 14km in south bucks on 18th October, replicating Saviours daily journey, not as an endurance test, but as a walk that as many people can join in with as possible, whether you are in Wycombe with us, or anywhere in the world.
I would be very grateful if you would sponser me and help me raise as much as possible for LearnAsOne, or if you want to walk with us, then e-mail volunteering@bucks.ac.uk
