The Eve Appeal was set up to save women's lives by funding groundbreaking research into gynaecological cancers. Our current focus is to develop effective methods of prediction, detection, treatment and care of ovarian cancer.

This world-leading research is complicated and challenging, but the ambition is simple: to identify techniques that could halve deaths from ovarian cancer.

It is a huge undertaking, but with your support we are sure that we can achieve this.

My story

Sadly my mother passed away in June, two and half years after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I cannot begin to describe to you the hardships this puts on any family, nor what it is like to watch your mother fall into the jaws of cancer. It is an illness that creeps up, takes its grip and seemingly never lets go. So in her memory I have decided to run a marathon.

I want to achieve two things by competing in the New York Marathon on 1^st November 2009. The first is to raise money for The Eve Appeal and second, to do this by putting myself through the hardship of something I said I would never do.

Three months ago, I gave up alcohol (for those that know me well, a monumentl challenge in its own right!), bought some Lycra, donned some fancy running shoes and began training. Several injuries and physio appointments later, I am into my final weeks of preparation.
