The official total is £5177.21, which means each charity will receive £2588.60

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

In May 2009, Phil Smith and Steve Olding will be riding their motorbikes around Britain to raise money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice & the IoW Motor Neurone Disease Association.

In May 2008 Phil's wife Bessie was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. The Earl Mountbatten Hospice and the IoW Motor Neurone Disease Association both provide vital care & assistance without which life for Bessie's family would be a lot harder.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones It leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. About one fifth of sufferers undergo a personality change. This may be very mild or, as in Bessie's case, quite marked.

Please note that we are raising money for BOTH the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and the Isle of Wight Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (Registered Charity no. 294354).

Any funds raised through this website will be divided equally between both charities.

If you wish to donate off-line then contact Phil or Steve at info@philandstevedobritain.org.uk

Please Note: Due to a recent accident Steve can no longer ride and his place will be taken by Mat Rumsey.

Between 9th & 16th May 2009 Phil & Mat Rumsey completed 1750 miles around England and Scotland, an average of between 240 & 250 miles a day.

The IoW Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association  works very closely with the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, where it has funded special equipment and beds.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The charities will get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!
