Yoga Fundraiser
a class in aid of the Prison Phoenix Trust
Help offer the amazing
benefits that we get from yoga to people who find themselves at the bottom of
the heap with no lower to go. For those in prison, a yoga class can be a transformational
moment if the opportunity is there.
When: Thursday 7 August, 7-9pm.
Where: The Activity Room, St Mark's Centre, 22 Greenwich South St, London
SE10 8TY (entrance in Ashburnham Place).
Suggested donation: £12.50 / £10.50 concessions. Donate at the class or
give online here.
Contact: ali@movingprayer.co.uk / 020 8317 3767 / www.movingprayer.co.uk.
About the class
The first 45 minutes of the class will be a yin yoga practice, consisting of
deep, long relaxing stretches with a meditative focus. Once we have softened
and opened our bodies, we will come to standing for an astanga-based practice.
The class will be taught to accommodate most levels of ability and experience.
However, if you don't feel up to the dynamism of astanga, you're welcome to
come just for the yin section of the class, which you don't need to be fit to
practise and enjoy.
About the Prison Phoenix Trust
The Prison Phoenix Trust (PPT) is an inspirational organisation that works to
provide yoga and meditation classes for people in prison and also for prison
officers. These classes truly change lives, not just for the rare individual
but for many people. Here's what a prisoner at HMP Belmarsh has to say: 'Through
yoga and meditation my peace of mind has grown beyond my wildest dreams. I used
to be so moody and angry and the things I used to dwell upon and hold onto don't
cause me to resent anyone or anything any more. It's only the gift of meditation
and breath that has made me see that I couldn't progress until I let go completely
of all the anger from within me.' For more about the PPT go to www.prisonphoenixtrust.org.uk.
