My story

Most of us our fortunate enough to have to the opportunity to participate in sports and activities unaided (whether extreme or not!). Unfortunately for 9 million people in the UK - that's 1 in 7 people - this is not a realistic possibility. The Calvert Trust offers those with disabilities a chance to participate in a variety of adventure driven outdoor activities that will help develop a sense of achievement that will carry through into their every day life.

For us this expedition, despite the hardships we will inevitably face, will be the adventure of a lifetime. It would be great to be able to facilitate giving something back and enable those not so capable a chance to experience a taste of their own individual adventure.

Team n2i successfully travelled ski 1,100 miles across the Antarctic wilderness to reach their goal – the Pole of Inaccessibility on the 18th January 2007. This is the point furthest from any coast line located at the exact centre of the continent. It is further, higher, more remote and considerably colder than the more traditional expedition to the Geographic South Pole. The were the first people to reach this point since a train of Soviet Caterpillar Vehicles first conquered this most inhospitable of locations in December 1958. No one has attempted to reach this point previously without mechanical assistance.

The Calvert Trust aims to raise £599,000 of which it has already received £110,000, below are some examples of what that total entails:

£150,000  - New Sports Hall, £88,000    - Volunteer Accommodation, £65,000    - Indoor Climbing Wall, £40,000    - Riding Arena, £30,000    - Climbing Rope Course

The Calvert Trust is only a small charity, but if we can reach our fund raising objective then we will make a HUGE difference to their cause. So please give as generously as you are able and hopefully by the time we return in February we can build a sports hall.
