Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org

Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Me and my mum are both running the 5k in Hyde Park on 7th September for Connect because she had a stroke 9 years ago which left her with the communication disability aphasia.

When my mum had her stroke she could hardly speak or understand anything people were saying to her. Going to Connect was amazing for my mum as it put her in touch with other people who had aphasia and helped her reconnect to the world. Now she is the Deputy Chair of Trustees and is active in organising local groups for other people with aphasia.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Connect - the Communication Disability Network gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
