The Big Issue Foundation aims to enable people affected by homelessness to achieve self-confidence, self-esteem and independence by providing access to a unique range of services that help homeless people take control of their lives and find permanent homes and jobs.
Next February I am attempting to climb Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. It will be in aid of The Big Issue foundation and runs over 10 days.
The Big Issue set up in Kenya in January 2007 and is sold by vendors recruited from youth groups in City slums. These are young people who are jobless and are looking for an opportunity to earn an income. The Big Issue was key in the setting up of The Big Issue Kenya, and continues to provide them with ongoing advice and support. No matter what country The Big Issue is based in, it works on the same principles. The Big Issue offers hope and the means to move away from begging, crime and ultimately street life. It helps vendors move their lives forward by gaining the skills and confidence to get into work. It helps to create employment and alleviate poverty.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Big Issue Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
