My name is Naomi Weir and I am 17 years old. In October I attended a 5 day selection course for a gap year with the charity Project Trust (No. SCO25668), and I was lucky enough to be selected to spend my gap year in Thailand. While in Thailand I will be teaching English to schoolchildren to improve their employment prospects and their ability to communicate with the wider world. I will also take the opportunity to volunteer at an orphanage, elephant sanctuary or other worthwhile projects during the school holidays. To take advantage of this fantastic opportunity I need to raise £4630 by the end of July 2010. I have a number of ideas to raise this money such as bag-packing, running raffles, quizzes and other competitions and by running sponsored events such as leg waxing and abseiling.
Project Trust is an educational charity (No. SCO25668) based on the Isle Of Coll. For over 40 years it as been sending 17 - 19 year olds overseas, and each year they send around 200 volunteers. It's main objective is to educate volunteers by allowing them to fully experience a culture and environment completely different to that which they are used to, but they also ensure that all placements have an extremely positive impact on the local community abroad and that no jobs are taken from local people.
