During my last Summer holiday in August 2009 I visited an Emunah home in Afulah. I went to visit Chani, a girl my age who was about to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah. Her parents were divorced, she was having a difficult time at home, and without the money I gave she couldn’t afford a party. When I met her we hugged and cried and even though we didn’t speak the same language we knew exactly how we each felt.
There are lots of Chanis in Israel and I want to help some of them to have a better life. So many of the things I take for granted, they will never know.
And so I am going to raise some money for Emunah. Next week I will be doing a sponsored silence, before school, in school and after school. I will be doing it with two of my school friends, Olivia Harris and Alex Hyer. For most people, not talking for a day is difficult. For me it is going to be a real challenge, because I find it very hard to shut up. If you know me well, you’ll be smiling and nodding now and saying “yup”.
