Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.  We have news!  If you have been waiting to see how we got on before sponsoring us please read on below...

Out of respect for those that work the sea and their dependants, Team NAUGHTY MONKEY 07 undertook the Lloyds Register 24-Peaks Challenge with 33 other teams from industry, in aid of Seafarers UK.  You may recognise the charity by its former name: The King George Fund For Sailors.

The Team traveled to the Keswick youth hostel Fri p.m. before getting what was left of a good nights sleep.  Arising at 0415 on Sat we grabbed a quick breakfast before travelling for an 0540 team briefing.  This was followed by the start of our walk at 0610 with an ascent up Red Pike.  As well as the mountainous terrain, the Team battled prolonged downpours of heavy rain and the associated very wet conditions underfoot, fresh winds and long periods of near-zero visibility whilst negotiating the mountain tops.  Several bouts of horizontally driven hail whilst at height really stung, but at least it kept us from falling asleep!  Ten peaks later we descended The Band (from Bowfell), to complete Day 1 an hour inside the fourteen-hours scheduled.  Travel, showers, dinner and the repacking of gear saw us late to bed.

Sunday's alarm shattered dreams at 0310, facilitating another early team briefing and a start to the day's walking at 0455 with a draining ascent up Red Screes.  A higher cloud-base today would see us rewarded for our presence with fantastic panoramic views throughout the day with enough sunshine to lift our spirits and have some reaching for the suncream.  Tiring early ascents and arduous descents gave way to hard stony paths (to aggravate already bruised soles!) across the tops and later to a seemingly endless descent through ever more boggy ground.  Fourteen peaks conquered this day, Team NAUGHTY MONKEY walked through the finish gate, to tumultuous applause from organisers and public alike, with half an hour to spare of the ten-hours scheduled.

We are very pleased (if not a little sore!) to report that we achieved the challenge 7-8 Jul 07, in an official time of  22:28:10.

This page will remain available until around 7 Sep 07, so if you wish to celebrate our success with us, please dig deep and sponsor Team NAUGHTY MONKEY 07 here online.  Your donations will be of immense benefit and comfort to those in need.  Sincere and kind regards from all at Team NAUGHTY MONKEY 07.
