FIRSTPLUS and Broker Ridge Colleagues are coming out in force to raise money for our Charity of the Year the ‘Noah’s Ark Appeal’ and Cancer Research UK.  We intend to complete a 10k run on the 14th October.  We currently have over 40 colleagues set to take part, which is a fantastic show of support and amounts to almost 10% of the company. 

The Noah’s Ark Appeal was set up in May 2000 to raise the money needed to build, equip and support the first dedicated children’s hospital for Wales.  The first phase of the Children's Hospital for Wales, comprising two medical wards and two floors dedicated to children with cancer, an education room and playrooms on each floor opened its doors to its first patients in February 2005.  The hospital will treat over 8,000 in-patients and a further 20,000 out-patients each year.

So far, in addition to raising the money needed to build the first phase of the Children's Hospital, the Noah’s Ark Appeal has provided new equipment for the hospital and has funded an art programme which ensures that a stay in hospital is less frightening for a young patient.

Cancer Research UK is the world's leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. They support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 4,250 scientists, doctors and nurses. They aim to carry out world class research to improve our understanding of cancer and find out how to prevent, diagnose and treat different kinds of cancer, and they also work to improve the lives of all cancer patients.

Anyone that knows me will recognise that this is some challenge, especially given how I run! But I am sure you’ll agree it shows great dedication from the whole team.
