On 12 and 13 September 2009, we will be taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge. This is an incredibly challenging event, which involves climbing the 3 highest mountains in the UK, Ben Nevis (1344m), Scarfell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1085m) in just 24 hours, including driving time between the peaks! The challenge includes 13 hours of walking and 11 hours of driving, therefore you can see there is no room for error in making sure we hit our 24 hour deadline.
We are subjecting ourselves to this not just for the fun of it (!) but to raise funds for Neurocare. Neurocare is a fantastic Sheffield based charity which raises funds purely to buy cutting edge neurosurgical equipment for the benefit of critically injured and ill patients at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. As a result of Neurocare's work, the Hallamshire has access to state of the art equipment that the NHS is unable to fund. Although a Sheffield based charity, the implications of Neurocare's work reach out across the region as patients can be brought in from other hospitals to benefit from the equipment.
Every year, the dedicated staff at the hospital's neurosurgery unit save the lives of hundreds of critically injured and ill patients with more and more surviving thanks to the advances in technology. Without the funds including those raised by Neurocare, many of these advances could not be afforded.
You can read more about Neurocare and their current projects by visiting their website, http://www.neurocare.org.uk.
We have been training hard for this event around the beautiful Peak District, and are hoping to raise a significant amount of money to help Neurocare towards completing their projects. We would be very grateful if you would consider sponsoring us. Even better, by donating through our Just Giving site, Neurocare receives Gift Aid on your donation which increases the amount you have pledged by 28%.
