For you to appreciate why I intend to complete this 2008 London Triathlon event, comprising a 1 mile swim, 25 mile cycle and 6 mile run on 9th August this year (even in my current state of non athletic condition), I feel it is necessary for you to know a bit of background into the charity for which I choose to complete this event:

A good friend of mine, John Fisher underwent a heart transplant operation in July 2000. Prior to the operation and at the age of 38, he was unable to walk upstairs due to the severity of his heart condition.
After his transplant, John has actively set out to raise awareness, support and fundraising through his own charity "To Transplant and Beyond" for other transplant patients and their families.
In order to raise this awareness, he has completed the London Marathon 6 times, the London Triathlon 3 times, the London to Brighton cycle ride 6 times as well as the Athens, Snowdonia, Sydney, Venice and Great Wall of China Marathons (all since receiving his new heart).
To help John and his charity to give back to others what he so gratefully received himself nearly eight years ago, and for which he is now thankfully in superb health as a result of, I feel there is no greater reward.
