Nepal is one of the world's poorest countries and because of its mountainous terrain and a virtual absence of roads it can take days to get to a doctor or hospital if you are sick. Telemedicine - the practice of medicine using email telephone and video - has the capacity to really change the health of people in Nepal by giving them health advice and treatment much nearer to where they live. The aim of our innovative project is to invest in a very remarkable young Nepalese man - Tshering Lama. His telemedicine work in Nepal at Dhulikhel Hospital and its surrounding villages has already saved lives. His results will go towards a PhD at Northumbria University, and achieving this will give this project enormous credibility, sustaining it not just at Dhulikhel but throughout Nepal. We aim to raise £17,500 over the next 6 months to provide the necessary training and equipment in Nepal, to maintain Tshering there and to pay his remaining PhD fees of £4300 (which have been reduced significantly through the generosity of Northumbria University.)
