Thanks for taking the time to visit our Newborn Baby Appeal JustGiving page, this appeal is about making our new neonatal unit a centre of excellence for the sickest and most vulnerable newborn infants.

“Imagine giving birth to a very sick baby and having your child rushed away from you before you have even had a chance to hold them and say hello and then being told it will be touch and go as to whether or not they will survive and will be in hospital for many weeks or months. Then imagine on top of this there is nowhere for you to rest, relax, have some privacy, feel human. This is what it is like to have a baby in an intensive care unit in hospital where the space is crowded, noisy and claustrophobic. “Andy Currie Neonatal Consultant.

The Newborn Baby Appeal is about not only providing for the care of the babies but also to offer a welcoming and friendly environment to the parents and families. It is about ensuring we have cutting edge technology available to support the care we offer the babies in our hands and it is about providing not just adequate accommodation, but decent, comfortable and friendly accommodation for parents to be close to their sick child.

Help us raise the last £50,000.

So far the Newborn Baby Appeal has raised over £120,000. That, together with existing funds the charity holds, means we only need to raise another £50,000 to do all we want to do to care for mother and baby on the neonatal unit. We want to do everything we can to support babies born prematurely and their parents in helping to care for them in those vital first few days and weeks.

The new unit is now open and running smoothly on Level Two of the Maternity unit at the Royal Infirmary, but we are still raising funds to complete parent accommodation on the top floor. Please take a few minutes to watch our appeal video, and if you are able to help, please give as much as you can.

With your help, Leicester can have a holistic approach to the whole family, which in turn helps the baby in high dependency care, removing some of the obvious stresses. The Newborn Baby Appeal has the ability to touch almost everyone in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and the greater East Midland area. We are all parents, grandparents or close friends of someone with a new baby and nationally 1 in 10 babies born will need some neonatal support.

We cannot take away all the stress and distress of having a sick baby in hospital but with your help, our new unit will hopefully address a lot of these problems.

Please help us today and give every newborn baby a better, brighter future.

Thank you
