Why your donation matters

New Life Counselling is a charity based in Northern Ireland committed to supporting emotional health and wellbeing needs through the provision of counselling and therapeutic services. We offer one-to-one and group counselling services for over 5,000 children, young people, adults and families each year. We seek to provide services free of charge to those in the community who need them. Each counselling session costs £65 to deliver.

At any time 1 in 4 adults have a mental health issue. These issues can affect an individual’s quality of life. Issues we routinely deal with are stress, anxiety, depression, relationship breakdown, drug/alcohol issues, bullying and suicidal thoughts.

Case study: donations in action

Lucy’s Story- I am 9 years old. Last year my mummy and daddy started having fights. They shouted at me and it made me feel so sad, I wanted us to have fun as a family again. One morning I saw that daddy was not in and his car had gone- mummy said he had gone away for a while but not to worry because he would be back. Mummy started to cry.

I didn’t see daddy for a month and nobody told me where he had gone. I was so sad and worried. In school I couldn’t work and cried to my teacher sometimes. I started to wet my bed at night and tried to hide it from mummy. My teacher told mummy about New Life Counselling and how they can help children who feel sad or need someone to talk to.

My counsellor showed me ways to relax and to let my feelings out in a safe way. I don’t need to go and see my counsellor anymore but I keep a book where I draw pictures about how I am feeling instead.
