09th October - Trek accross Wall of China

Thank you for visiting the NHYTrek page and sponsor this brilliant charity called Stepping Stones Nigeria (http://www.steppingstonesnigeria.org/)

Stepping Stones Nigeria (SSN) works with partner community organisations in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria to protect, save and transform the lives of vulnerable children such as street children and orphans.Our work focuses on some of the most challenging issues that children face today such as:

  • Lack of access to good quality education and resources

  • Stigmatisation, abandonment and killings of so-called child 'witches'

Thanks to such organisation, thousands of children get the education and support they deserve.

    

Our trek - 09th October 2009 - 9 days

After two days of travelling, we will start our trek on the Great Wall (Huangyaguan). The following days, we will go up Heavens Ladder, a steep 200 step climb up a cliff face (dont be scared of heights!!!!). Then, a return to basic countryside, we will trek between the mountain village and Jinshanlin, through the farmers'fields (if by now you dont think your money is worth our suffering, i dont know what would be!!!). Next, time for History lesson, Gubeiko to Jonshanlin. Bus out to Gubeiko then follow the wall back to Jonshanlin passing remnants dating back to the Qing Dynasty. Then the rest is a bit of a walk really, JJinshanlin to Simatei - stunning especially along this largely restored section of the wall. Now we are at day 5 of the trek (bit tired hey?),Simatei to Mutianyu - Stunning views reward the frequent climbs along this dramatic section of the wall. And finally, Mutianyu to Juyongguan - A warm down walk on a circuit of the restored wall before returning to Beijing.
