Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I have now surpassed my original target and returned from my trek in Ethiopia, but it is not too late to donate if you would still like to do so. I was in Ethiopia between 14th November and 29th November 2007. During this time, I completed a sponsored trek through the Simien Mountains, which included climbing the highest mountain in Ethiopia, Ras Dashen. The trek was in aid of a fabulous charity called Retrak, which works with streetchildren in Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya. When in Addis Ababa, I visited the Retrak centre for Ethiopia. From here, the charity attempts to reunite streetchildren with their families, to enrol them in school and to help with their training and employment. (More details about Retrak are below.) Money raised on this website goes directly to the charity. I covered all the costs of the expedition myself, so you will not be subsidising the costs of the trek. Photos of the trek can be found on my Facebook page. ________________________________________________________________ RETRAK reunites children with their families where possible. When this is not possible, it places children with foster families where they receive the love, security and support thay have not had. RETRAK also encourages street children back into education and, where the children are older, into training and - eventually - employment. The aim is to ensure people who start as street children end up living independent, fulfilling and contented lives. £10 will feed a boy for 2 weeks £30 will pay for one term at primary school £50 will cover the annual costs of following up a resettled child £100 will pay for a month's treatments at a medical centre £450 will cover the entire cost of setting up a business venture to give a livelihood to one or more people ________________________________________________________________ Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me.
