My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

On the 28th of July, 2008, I will set off from St. Malo in France, on my bike, with the intention of covering the approximate route of the Tour de France, some 2,000 miles, to raise money for the Brain and Spine Foundation (registered charity no.1098528). It is a charity that seeks to provide care and support for the sufferers of brain and spine conditions,  such as the sub arachnoid haemorrhage and the stroke that sadly killed my father and grandfather in December 2005.

The money raised from my sponsored ride will help the Brain and Spine Foundation to continue to provide a national focus for research, education and information which aims to improve the quality of life for people with over 200 different types of neurological disorder such as brain tumours and epilepsy. The charity runs a helpline run by neuroscience nurses, so that a newly diagnosed person, or his carer, can get the advice and support he needs.

The Tour is legendary, it is both a physical and mental challenge - and that’s for those athletes who are able to train every day of their lives for the ultimate cycling prize. Although I will not be cycling at the same speed as these professionals, it will be an equally daunting prospect for me. Over 28 days I will cover around 2,000 miles, taking in some of the most intimidating Col’s that the Tour has to offer, enduring French summer heat, and finishing along the Champs-Élysées to considerably less applause than that which the racers are greeted with!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Brain and Spine Foundation will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.

Thank you in advance. Any support, however small, will be greatly appreciated.
