| Our personal message: |
The 605 Km ride from London to Paris came to an end at about 19.00 on Saturday evening (28th of June) ending three days of pain, exhileration and enormous discomfort. Like a bulldog with a stick in its mouth, I hung on to (generally to the back end of!) the group 2 pelaton, which ripped through the English and French country side like a flock of migrating swallows. Speeds averaged between 31 and 34 Kms/hour, depending on the session, peaking at around 60 Kms/hour, in my case, going down some of the many steep hills we encountered.
The purpose of this exercise was to raise funds to continue the invaluable work which Unicef and The Smile Train carry out around the world. Donations came and are still coming in from a small group of friends and close business associates who have supported this effort with immense generousity and tremendous encouragement. I set myself a never-never target of £50.000 and today the total funds committed or donated stands at £47.062, some of which have been been committed through this and the other web page, and some through payments to the charities directly. It remains for me to thank everyone for their support and hope that the last few visitors to the web pages can get us over the line in terms of our last few thousand pounds. With every good wish,
Nicholas (Nick) Walker
