Hello and welcome to my great Birmingham Half-Marathon fundraising page!!!
I've been thinking about doing something for charity and decided to combine Birmingham's first major road run with raising a bit of cash for "Make A Wish Foundation".
Whilst mulling over the idea of doing this run (which is a big step up for me physically) I happened to meet a disabled guy named 'Malcolm Murray' who, along with 'Hoochie Coochie Man' (a long haired Yorkie dog), had just returned from an arduous tour of Scotland in aid of Polio Fellowship. They were both standing on a platform at Birmingham New Street Station and we got talking. I offered to pay for Malcolm's train fare and after hearing about his fundraising treks across the world I decided this would be a fitting way to make the most of my own run. Malcolm put me in his travel log and I later received a post card from him thanking me for the offer of train fare. This kind of persuaded me to begin my first journey for charity.
"Why 'Make A Wish Foundation'?"
I chose 'Make A Wish Foundation' because the regional office is downstairs from where I work. I dropped by to ask about the cause... there was a big board with names on, a list of children up to the age of 16 who have a range of life-threatening illnesses in the Midland and South West region.
Back to it...
I've bought my running gear and I'm increasing by a mile per week, I am going from 3 mile runs to a 13 miler on the 26th October 2008... wish me luck!
Please feel free to donate whatever you feel you can spare, the thought is more important than the amount and it will further inspire me to achieve my goal and we can all help bring a bit of happiness to one or more children who will truly appreciate it.
Thank you all in advance and speak to you all soon. Take care
Nick Byng
