Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
On the 9th November 2007, we were blessed by the birth of our second daughter Ashleigh and a little sister for Holly, but our joys were short lived when she was taken ill after two days and was rushed to the Pilgrim Hospital in Boston and from there she was taken to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.
We spent three weeks hoping and praying that she would be ok, but sadly it was not to be and we had to take the worst heart breaking decision any parents could have to make and turn off her life support machine on the 2nd December 2007.
Ashleigh died of heart complications and a rare condition called Neonatal Hemochromatosis, making her a baby in millions.
We spent those weeks in total shock, but if it wasn't for the kindness and professionalism of all the staff and the existence of the Heartlink Charity, I'm not sure we would have come through the experience as well as we did. Heartlink provides equipment for the PICU and Children's Wards at Glenfield Hospital, and support for parents. The support for us came in the form of a bedroom we could live in, down the corridor from Ashleigh, and somewhere we could retreat to when needed.
Our little daughter touched so many people in her short life, most who never met her, and we feel that we want to repay the kindness of the staff, and do something to help other babies, children and parents. Following her funeral kind donations to Heartlink from friends, relatives and work colleagues amounted to several thousand pounds, and family and friends have since raised almost a further £2000.
On Saturday 11th July 2009, I plan to walk the Yorkshire Three Peaks with family, friends and work colleagues. At present there are between 20-30 people who have agreed to take part. This is a challenging 25 mile circular walk, taking in the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The aim is to complete in 12 hours.
This website has been set up for the use of all those taking part in this event, and if you feel you would like to donate anything in memory of our little girl and improve the lives of future babies, children and parents who will pass through the doors at Glenfield, please follow the process on this page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Heart Link gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you so much for your support.
Nick, Nicola, Holly and all their fellow walkers
