My story

 

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. This is for Lucy, for the children who attend G4 at Southampton and for all children living with chronic kidney failure.

Lucy was diagnosed with the genetic disease, Juvenile Nephronophthisis, in January 2008 when she was 3 years old. This disease causes progressive destruction of both her kidneys, meaning that she will need a transplant before she reaches adolescence. At the moment she is full of life and is doing very well thanks to the care that she receives from the Paediatric Nephrology team at Southampton General Hospital.

Kids Kidney Research is a wonderful charity which funds research that is absolutely vital to improve and prolong the lives of children with kidney failure. There are no cures for chronic kidney failure, but improved medicines and treatment as a result of the research funded by KKR are so important in helping these children and their families with their treatment and in giving them a future to look forward to.

I'm afraid that I am not going to be running the London Marathon (maybe next year!), but I am going to be doing something that requires lots of will power and self discipline, which is losing lots of weight.  I have made a start but am finding that I need some kind of motivation to continue and what better motivation could there be than raising money for a charity that is so close to our hearts. I aim to lose 3 stone (42 lbs) in total  and as I write this I have lost 11 lbs and so I am on my way!  I will continue to update this page with my weight loss.

I also intend to involve the children in some one-off money raising events. I will keep you informed!
