Hi all!
In July 2009, I will be taking part in a 8-week not-for-profit volunteering programme under the auspices of UK registered charity HOPE for Children (www.hope-for-children.org; registered charity number: 1041258).
Unlike most programmes we will be actually investing the money we raise into the programmes themselves, it provides economic stability for the areas of India that need it the most especially with so much unequal financial distribution as we all know
For example:
£1 - colouring pencils and pens for children in schools who've never picked up a pen
£10 - provides books and resources to help those who have not been fortunate to have an education
£50 - provides shelter and accommodation for rag picker children who have little money and very little prospects
£100 - provides cleaner and safer drinking water through processes available
£1000 - provides opportunites to build new schools in areas where there are very little opportunites for children to progress
and so on..
I will be working full time to help children in the the villages of Mumbai: child-labourers and rag-pickers in Mumbai, India. These children are some of the most neglected in the world – I will be helping them through for example teaching and care-giving. Not only will this practical help, as well as love and attention, make a huge difference, it demonstrates to these people that the outside world actually cares. This in itself can help transform lives.
These are not JUST children - they are those who share the same red blood as us, they are essentially our brothers and sisters. So they may not be related to us through our families, but in essenence this is a trip to provide assistance to our extended family
HOPE is an international children’s charity working with disabled, orphaned and exploited children in thirty countries worldwide. The majority of their work is in Africa and Asia although they also work in Europe, including the UK. HOPE was set up specifically to help the most needy in grassroots-level projects. Importantly, HOPE operates by partnering with local NGOs to ensure need is met locally.
Examples of HOPE’s work include providing prosthetic limbs to children disabled by landmines in Sri Lanka, special equipment for disabled children in the UK and funding for street children centres in Zambia, India, Zimbabwe and the Philippines. For inspiration and further examples of their work please visit their website www.hope-for-children.org.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Hope for Children gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
I have also set up a charity comedy club in aid of HOPE for Children which is on a short break until exams are over - please do come to our shows which are only £5 and all our proceeds go to HOPE for Children and other charities.

I will be doing the following events in order to raise sponsorship so please add "Nik Adhia" on facebook and support me!
There will be one last comedy night at High Holborn hall for those who are interested :) - it will be FREE but we will have entry by donation! :)
Charity Walk - 25 miles
Sponsored Silence (i'm sure many of you would pay to see that)
Krispy Kreme Bake Sale
Many more events to come!
Only £1 can make such a difference - so instead of buying that sandwich - put the money where it could make a huge deal of difference!
Thanks so much for your support, it really means a lot to me.
Nik
